In Sumy Region, rumors about the Russian occupation of Yunakovka have been denied

In Sumy Region, official representatives of the authorities have denied any information regarding the Russian military's capture of the strategic settlement of Yunakovka. It is known that in recent days, pro-Russian media have been reporting that Ukrainian forces have lost control over this important area, and that it is supposedly under full enemy control. However, the official position of regional officials indicates otherwise: the situation remains under the control of Ukrainian military forces, and reports of the occupation are unfounded. A statement regarding this was made by Oleksii Hrihoriiv, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration. According to him, he maintains ongoing communication with the troops fighting on the front lines, has an understanding of the real situation, and is aware of the combat status. "Information that Yunakovka is already under Russian control is false and not credible," he emphasized. Hrihoriiv also stated that Yunakovka remains under Ukrainian control. This means that Ukrainian troops are holding the defense and are not relinquishing this strategically important position to the enemy. He highlighted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as all units of the country's Defense Forces, are holding the line, repelling attacks, and successfully fending off any attempts by the enemy to break through in the front-line areas. At the same time, the situation in border communities, specifically in Yunakovka and Khotin, remains tense. Russian forces continue aggressive actions—dropping guided aerial bombs and attacking civilian infrastructure with drones, leading to tragic consequences. In recent days, two civilians have been killed due to shelling in the Yunakovka community—another sobering indication of the difficult situation on the front. Hrihoriiv noted that enemy forces are attempting to advance further into Ukrainian territory and are deploying small assault groups from Khotin and Yunakovka communities. However, Ukrainian soldiers are preventing the enemy from consolidating their positions—they are actively destroying enemy movements even before they reach the region. All attempts by the Russians to penetrate into the region result in significant enemy losses, and Ukrainian forces continue to defend their positions with maximum effort. The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration called on residents of the region to trust only official sources of information, particularly government and military structures. He assured that the authorities will promptly inform the public of any changes in the security situation and advised citizens not to spread unverified information to avoid panic and disinformation. The background of this conflict is somewhat different. On May 24, the Russian agency TASS published a report stating that Russian troops allegedly entered Yunakovka in Sumy Region. According to their information, Ukrainian forces were supposedly redeploying their units from Yunakovka to the Kursk region to bolster defenses or to strike the enemy. However, such statements were quickly refuted by Ukrainian military and regional authorities, who confirmed that the situation is stable and that control over Yunakovka remains with Ukraine. Thus, as of now, official information from the region unequivocally confirms: Yunakovka remains Ukrainian territory, and any reports claiming otherwise are disinformation aimed at fueling panic and creating an illusion of occupation. Authorities and military officials urge citizens to remain vigilant, trust verified sources, and unite efforts to oppose Russian aggression. The situation continues to be under the constant control of Ukrainian defense forces.
