S. Army is Exploring Combat Drone Capabilities Based on Experience in Ukraine In the context of modern combat operations, the United States is actively studying new technologies that could change the approach to warfare. Significant attention from the U.S. military is focused on the deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles, which are widely used during the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed this information during his speech at the graduation ceremony of the United States Military Academy at West Point. In his address, Trump particularly emphasized that modern combat drones demonstrate impressive capabilities and fundamentally alter military tactics. “We are witnessing not just new technologies but radically new methods of warfare that were only dreamed of before. Drones approaching at high-speed angles with pinpoint targeting—such things have not been seen in our history. We are learning from this experience, analyzing it, and integrating it into our tactics,” Trump stated. The politician highlighted that the war in Ukraine and the conflict with Russia have served as a kind of experimental platform for testing new technologies in real combat conditions. According to him, these developments are opening a new era of warfare in which unmanned systems play a key role. “We are witnessing a transformation of war—it's changing right before our eyes. Unfortunately, this experience costs human lives, but it provides us with valuable understanding of what we will face in the future,” the former U.S. president emphasized. He also added that new technologies should shape the future army and prepare soldiers for rapid cycles of change on the battlefield. According to him, modern armed forces need to be flexible, adapt quickly to new challenges, and recognize that unmanned aircraft and drones are radically changing the rules of the game. “We cannot stay in the past. Our officers, generals, and enlisted personnel must be ready for decisive changes in warfare. Studying Ukraine’s experience is not just a lesson but an investment in our country’s security,” Trump stated. The recent Ukrainian military operation served as a backdrop for this statement. On May 24, artillery reconnaissance units of the “Black Forest” brigade demonstrated skill and professionalism by detecting and adjusting fire on the newest Russian surface-to-air missile system “Buk-M3.” This is a vivid example of how modern technologies and combat experience are combined in tandem for successful action on the battlefield, which, in turn, contributes to the development of new approaches in military affairs.
