This terrible incident took place in the settlement of Kalynivske, Beryslavskyi District, and its details have caused significant resonance in local and national Ukrainian media. According to information from Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, published on his Telegram channel, the tragedy happened due to careless handling of ammunition in a private house. An explosion of an unknown object, likely an ammunition item, occurred just a few hours ago, turning what might have been a minor incident into a real tragedy that took the life of an 8-year-old boy. Prokudin stated that, unfortunately, the child died at the scene. In addition to the boy, several other people were hospitalized: two women and one man. Medical personnel recorded an acute stress reaction in the 36-year-old injured woman, and she is currently undergoing examinations and therapy. Another woman, 37 years old, was hospitalized with multiple injuries—including cranio-cerebral trauma, shrapnel wounds to the arms, legs, neck, and chest. All injuries proved to be quite serious, requiring urgent medical assistance at local hospitals. Later, Prokudin added that three more adults and children were injured in the same incident. These included two minors—an 8-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl—who were transported to medical facilities in moderate condition. Both were wounded by shrapnel and blast injuries, which indicates the danger and continued explosive risk posed by undemilitarized remnants of ammunition or unexploded ordnance left by local authorities after previous conflicts. In addition to the children, a 34-year-old man (born in 1989) was also hospitalized. Medical examinations diagnosed him with a mine-explosion injury, and specialists are now conducting further testing to determine the extent and nature of his injuries and to prescribe appropriate treatment. This incident again underscores the unsafe and hazardous aspects of storing and handling ammunition in a region where active hostilities are ongoing. Local authorities and law enforcement are taking all necessary measures to find and neutralize unexploded shells and explosive objects. However, unfortunately, such tragic cases sometimes occur, claiming the most precious—lives of children and adults. Currently, all victims are in hospitals, receiving necessary medical care, and police have initiated an investigation into the causes of this tragedy. The local community is mourning, and residents are urged to exercise extra caution due to the potential presence of dangerous remnants of past hostilities, as each piece of ammunition is potentially lethal, and careless handling can result in human tragedy. This horrific story once again reminds us of the urgent need for increased safety measures and control in the region, as well as the importance of mass information campaigns to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
