Ukrzaliznytsia changed train routes due to a ground collapse in the Carpathians

Due to numerous reports of a soil landslide on the railway section between Yasиня and Voronenko stations in the Carpathian region, the Ukrainian railway company "Ukrzaliznytsia" promptly implemented temporary route and schedule adjustments for passenger and commuter trains. Information about these latest updates was published on the company's official social media pages on May 23 to inform passengers and prevent inconveniences during travel. According to preliminary data, the destruction of the railway track caused some routes to be either altered or limited in certain segments. Specifically, throughout the day, train schedules were adjusted, and some services were suspended or restricted to specific stations. This situation has arisen due to safety concerns caused by the ground subsidence, which complicates or even makes impossible the movement on the damaged section of the track. As reported by Ukrzaliznytsia, this decision affected several popular intercity trains that connect Kyiv, Rakhiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and other cities with the Carpathian region. Instead of following their usual routes, these trains had to reroute to avoid the collapsed railway section. For example, train No. 233 Kyiv – Rakhiv will now stop only at Yaremche station, with arrival scheduled at 5:21 AM. To return in the opposite direction, train No. 144 Rakhiv – Chernihiv will depart from Yaremche at 12:24. Similarly, train No. 55 Kyiv – Rakhiv is only permitted to run as far as Mykulychiyn station (arriving at 6:48), with a return trip from this station scheduled for 18:48. Likewise, trains No. 95 Kyiv – Rakhiv and No. 107 Kyiv – Yasynya will stop only at Voronenko and Mykulychiyn stations, respectively, and their return routes will also operate from these points. Route restrictions also apply to other popular trains. For instance, train No. 5 Zaporizhzhia — Yasynya will now run only to Vorokhta station, arriving there at 10:04. The return trip from Vorokhta to Zaporizhzhia is scheduled for 13:03. The Odessa — Yasynya route is operating under the same regime: now it runs only to Vorokhta (arriving at 11:35), with the return departing from Vorokhta at 15:35. Similarly, train No. 357 Kyiv – Yasynya will arrive at Mykulychiyn at 11:58, with the return trip from this station to Kyiv scheduled for 15:27. Another well-known route, Kharkiv — Vorokhta, now only runs to Yaremche, with on-time arrival at 12:55 and the return departure from Yaremche at 17:12. For passengers from northern Ukraine, this schedule was critical since the route was altered specifically due to the dangerous situation on the track. Additionally, restrictions have been introduced for passengers from Sumy and Rakhiv — trains No. 143 and No. 234 now terminate at Vorokhta or Vorokhta and Zalishchyky stations, respectively. At the same time, Ukrzaliznytsia reassures passengers: to mitigate discomfort and ensure transportation during the repair period, the company has organized additional bus transfers. The announcement states that all long-distance train passengers with temporarily adjusted routes will have access to shuttle buses operating in both directions from the terminal stations along temporary routes. This measure aims to prevent delays, save time, and reduce crowding at limited sections. Ukrzaliznytsia officials emphasize that, for safety reasons and for prompt response to the situation, they will continuously update information regarding track conditions and possible resumption of train movements. The company is taking all necessary steps to quickly repair the damages and restore normal railway operations. Additionally, plans are underway for reinforcement and repair work to be carried out promptly to restore traffic on the affected section. Passengers who need to adjust their travel plans due to this situation can obtain additional information and consultations through official Ukrzaliznytsia sources and the company’s hotlines. Only through joint efforts and rapid mobilization of resources does the company hope to overcome the consequences of the natural disaster and restore regular train services in the region as quickly as possible, providing the most comfortable conditions for passengers traveling through the Carpathians.
