The incident occurred in the context of heightened measures to counter Russian intelligence activities during the ongoing war in the eastern region of the country. Operatives documented the betrayal and neutralized a potential threat that could have caused significant destruction and human casualties. According to the SBU press service, the detained cadet was recruited by Russian special services — the FSB — and was tasked with adjusting missile strikes on educational and military installations in Ukraine. Specifically, he acted as an agent within an enemy sabotage system, which culminated in an attempt to organize a direct attack on one of the country's largest military institutes. As reported by the press service, investigators established that the suspect marked maps with coordinates of training buildings, military ranges, barracks, and other infrastructural objects of the educational institution. Additionally, he monitored manufacturing sites of Ukrainian defense and industrial complex enterprises, where field exercises and practical training for cadets took place, thereby creating an additional threat to national security. During these trips, he secretly took photos of designated objects, recording their locations in areas significant for potential shelling. Sources indicate that the individual prepared detailed reports for his FSB curator, describing the schedule of cadets' presence at various targets, which enabled the enemy to plan precise strikes if further instructions were received. The collected materials were used to direct missile strikes, which could have resulted in extensive destruction and loss of life. Cybersecurity specialists from the SBU conducted a comprehensive operation, documented the traitorous activity, and detained the agent on the institute's territory. They discovered that the suspect first came under the watch of the security services while seeking "easy earnings" through Telegram channels that often offer unpredictable and dubious income opportunities. Following his detention, investigative actions were carried out, during which electronic devices and documents confirming his collaboration with the enemy were confiscated. The detained individual faces charges under the article of "state treason" in its especially grave form — under martial law conditions. Due to the severity of the crime, a preventative measure in the form of remand without bail was chosen. According to investigators, the suspect faces a life sentence with confiscation of property — the strictest punitive measure stipulated by Ukrainian law for treason, especially in the context of armed conflict. This recent detention again underscores the level of danger posed by internal treachery during wartime, as well as the importance of constant surveillance and counterintelligence efforts against enemy agent networks. Ukrainian law enforcement agencies emphasize that such operations aim to neutralize any attempts by the enemy to harm the country's defense capabilities and security.
