According to official information from the Ukrainian Air Force, the enemy launched an attack using a “Iskander-M” ballistic missile and 175 drones of the Shahed type, along with decoys of various models. According to reports from Ukrainian military officials, as early as 22:30 on May 22, the enemy opened fire on Ukrainian territory, launching a ballistic missile from the Rostov region of Russia, as well as auxiliary drones from Millerovo, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. The goal of this attack was to destabilize the situation, destroy civilian and military infrastructure, and intimidate the population. Since the beginning of the missile raid, a strong air defense has been observed — as of 13:00 on May 23, Ukrainian forces had neutralized 150 out of the 175 enemy drones. Of these, 91 were destroyed by fire in key sectors — in the east, west, north, and south of the country, while another 59 drones were suppressed using radio-electronic warfare (REW) means, preventing any negative consequences for civilian infrastructure. At the same time, Ukrainian regions suffered from the attack — damaged homes and vehicles in Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Odesa, Chernivtsi, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Specifically, in Ivano-Frankivsk, residential areas and cars were affected by enemy drones, and a fire broke out at a railway station in Chernivtsi, causing additional difficulties for local residents and logistics chains. As a result of the missile attack, the Ukrainian side acknowledges that the enemy again suffered significant losses, but the consequences remain severe for the civilian population and regional infrastructure. Ukrainian military and security services are working to restore the situation and strengthen countermeasures to prevent new missile and drone attacks in the future. This night once again demonstrated that the war on Ukrainian territory is ongoing fiercely and unpredictably, and that the enemy spares no resources to stay persistent and destructive. Ukraine calls on the international community to intensify support and provide additional means to counter such large-scale aggression, as citizen safety and the country's integrity depend on decisive actions at the international level.
