A tragedy occurred in Dnipro, drawing public and law enforcement attention

According to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), a fatal traffic accident took place on Lenin Avenue involving a local judge. The man riding the motorcycle was found guilty of hitting a pedestrian crossing the road at a non-designated pedestrian crossing location. As a result of his injuries, the victim died at the scene. On May 23, around noon, law enforcement received reports of the incident near one of Dnipro's residential neighborhoods. According to investigators, a judge of one of the district courts, while riding a motorcycle, struck a man who was crossing the road at a place not designated for pedestrian crossing. Witnesses stated that the victim suddenly appeared in front of the speeding motorcycle and was unable to react in time. Initial reports indicate that the judge was sober at the time of the incident, which helps rule out alcohol or drug intoxication as a cause. Currently, the investigative team is working at the scene to establish all circumstances and gather evidence. It is known that the victim, approximately 50-55 years old, received fatal injuries and died instantly. His identity is being established. The State Bureau of Investigation has initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules resulting in death. This article prescribes up to eight years of imprisonment, depending on the circumstances of the case and the degree of the suspect’s guilt. Witnesses are being questioned at the scene, surveillance cameras are being seized, and an automotive technical expert examination is underway to determine the motorcycle’s speed and the precise cause of the collision. According to current legislation, a judge—as a person performing justice—does not enjoy immunity from responsibility in cases of violations that lead to tragic consequences. At the moment, an investigative team is working at the scene, and all circumstances of the incident are being clarified. The public is already inquiring whether a fair investigation will be carried out in this case. Law enforcement promises to publicly share any new details to ensure society’s confidence in the transparency of the process and that justice will be duly served.
