Net" and one of the most influential media figures in the Ukrainian information space, recently made an unexpected but very significant statement about his personal contribution to the country's defense. According to him, a few days ago he underwent a mobilization procedure and is now serving in the National Guard of Ukraine, in the 13th "Harta" Brigade, performing duties as a rifleman on the frontline. This was his personal full choice — to become part of a fighting team and to defend the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine out of vocation and conviction. In his message, Butusov confirmed that he mobilized into the National Guard as a soldier, performing the role of rifleman — the "first line of defense," ready for any challenges on the front. Speaking openly, he joined the friendly combat family of the 13th "Harta" Brigade, which has already become a symbol of fierce struggle and high patriotism. For the journalist and soldier, this was a personal decision made with deep respect for Ukrainian warriors and with a firm intention to personally participate in the country's defense, not just express support from the informational front. Butusov noted that service in "Harta" is an honor and responsibility for him. Many of his close friends and colleagues are in the brigade, which adds particular significance to this step. He especially highlighted the role of the commanders, notably Ihor Obolensky — the first commander of "Harta" and currently the commander of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard. This experience, which began back in April 2014 and was gained in battle, has fostered in the commander and his subordinates a strong combat tradition, high morale, and deep analytical understanding of modern combat operations. Obolensky, known as one of the most competent and innovative commanders within Ukraine’s security forces, has been implementing cutting-edge structural and organizational solutions in his units since 2016, borrowed from American practices: clear statutes, operational procedures, an independent sergeant corps, and decentralized management. These innovations have enabled the formation of a highly effective and combat-ready unit, armed with modern combat experience and high morale. Without resting on past achievements and military experience, Butusov openly admitted that he has participated in combat before — as a journalist who witnessed and directly took part in the fight. He participated in defensive battles, three assault operations, and witnessed the death of both enemies and comrades. He was involved in planning and executing military operations, created new Ukrainian military units, and provided modern experience for combat command. Overall, Yuriy Butusov has extensive experience in the military sphere — he has been involved in organizing and managing, establishing drones control centers, and actively works on analyzing and improving tactical and strategic approaches. Therefore, balancing his roles as a professional journalist and soldier is not easy for him, but he decided to take this step out of personal responsibility and support for the Ukrainian army. Regarding his health, he honestly acknowledged having some physical limitations — a torn Achilles tendon, vision problems, and difficulties with open aiming and physical exertion. However, he emphasized that within the Territorial Defense Centers (TDC) and the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (TRSSC), he considers himself fully healthy and capable of military service — "I can’t shoot with an open sight, but everything else is within acceptable limits." He assured that he does not make a big fuss about this nor seeks sympathy, but simply fulfills his duty with full responsibility. It is known that Yuriy Butusov’s decision to mobilize was made somewhat earlier — back in May 2023, when this topic started being actively discussed in the media, and he was heard in many interviews. However, only now has he officially confirmed his status and begun direct participation in combat operations, demonstrating through his own example dedication and patriotism. This decision has caused a broad public reaction — among supporters and opponents alike, as for many Ukrainians, his act is deeply symbolic and inspiring. It once again underscores that in the fight for independence and freedom, anyone can make their contribution — regardless of status, profession, or age. Yuriy Butusov, who has always been a voice of independent journalism and analysis, has now become an example of personal responsibility and true patriotism, demonstrating that even a journalist can learn real heroism. All this confirms: the Ukrainian people and their defenders are a true force capable of incredible deeds for the sake of freedom, sovereignty, and Ukraine’s future. Butusov’s decision is not just an emotional declaration or a symbolic gesture, but a genuine display of internal strength, readiness to fight, and to prevail.
