A tense and alarming situation has developed in Novorozdil city related to an attack on a military officer during a campaign to inform the local population about mobilization
The incident occurred at the end of May on Shevchenko Avenue, when Senior Soldier Nestor Didik was fulfilling his official duties, according to the Lviv Regional Recruitment and Social Support Center (TCC and SP). According to official information, around 11 p.m. on May 21, this serviceman, who has been a volunteer since February of last year and participated in combat operations as part of the 103rd Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the eastern part of the country, was performing the function of informing citizens about mobilization measures. At that time, he was approaching residents of Novorozdil community to notify them about the need to verify documents and gather reservists. At this stage, based on official data, a conflict broke out either in a local café or just near the avenue, which quickly escalated into a serious breach of public order. One of the residents, according to eyewitnesses, refused to show military documents and started using foul language and arguing with the military officer. This once again confirmed the tense atmosphere surrounding the mobilization processes in the region, which remains particularly sensitive to any signs of distrust or aggression toward the military. A few minutes later, a group of about eight men approached the scene and attacked the military officer with aggressive force. They began kicking and hitting him with their hands, knocked the soldier to the ground, and, abusing their strength, struck him on the head and body. According to police and eyewitness accounts, the attackers did not stop even when the soldier was already on the ground, continuing to kick him, inflicting severe pain and posing a danger to his life. The attack was stopped only thanks to the prompt intervention of nearby servicemen, who managed to subdue the assailants and transport the injured soldier to a hospital. Medical personnel diagnosed him with several bruises on his face and a broken rib. As of the moment of reporting, his condition remains stable; however, the full diagnosis and extent of his injuries have not yet been determined. The police have already opened a criminal case under Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — "intentional moderate bodily harm." This responsibility will ensure a full investigation of all circumstances and accountability for those responsible for the brutal assault on the military officer. According to the leadership of the Lviv Regional TCC, Senior Soldier Nestor Didik is a dedicated serviceman with combat experience: since the start of the war in February 2022, he voluntarily joined the 103rd Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine and participated in defending our territories in the Donetsk valley, Luhansk region, and Kharkiv region. After receiving injuries, he was transferred to service at the Lviv Military Commissariat, where he performs tasks related to mobilization and informing the population. The events of this night highlight once again the complexity and tension of current processes in the region, particularly concerning civilian support and attitudes toward the military. The military emphasizes the importance of maintaining public order, respecting service, and protecting the rights of those performing vital functions for the country's security. Currently, the police continue their investigation and measures to establish all circumstances of the incident, as well as to hold all responsible parties accountable. At the same time, military circles remain firm in their resolve to further support the work of volunteers and servicemen who risk their lives for the safety of our country, and to protect them from such acts of gross aggression.
