The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine categorically refuted the statements circulated by the Russian side about the purported end of hostilities in the Kursk region
This response was prompted by information that once again appeared in Moscow and its media sources, claiming a complete halt to active combat operations along the Russian-Ukrainian border in the border districts of Kursk. On May 21, the General Staff officially emphasized that the situation in this area remains tense and complicated, and reports of “the end of hostilities” are completely false. The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated clearly that the operation of Ukrainian units in the border regions of Belgorod and Kursk oblasts continues directly and persistently. “Although conditions remain difficult and unpredictable, Ukrainian troops steadfastly hold their positions, fulfill assigned tasks, and deliver effective strikes to the enemy, including on its territory,” the military representative underlined. According to official sources, the situation in the Kursk direction remains under control of the Ukrainian army, and the enemy continues to suffer heavy losses. Since the start of the operation, the enemy has experienced destruction and losses amounting to over 63,000 Russian troops. Of these, 25,625 are officially confirmed killed, and another 971 Russian servicemen have been taken prisoner. Additionally, Ukrainian forces have destroyed or damaged over 5,664 units of enemy military equipment and weapons. It is important to note that Ukrainian units continue to carry out active combat operations in designated areas of Belgorod Oblast in the Russian Federation. This demonstrates not only the resilience of Ukrainian defense but also the systematic efforts aimed at deterring and destroying the enemy’s logistical and military targets. Therefore, claims about the “end of hostilities” are currently false and constitute disinformation from Russia. The real situation in the region remains tense and dynamic, with Ukrainian defenders demonstrating steadfastness in defending their positions and the capability to inflict significant losses on the enemy even under challenging circumstances. This information confirms that combat operations along the border are ongoing, and their development remains a key aspect of the full-scale war that Ukraine is waging against Russia’s occupied territories and military formations.
