This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, highlighting that the member countries will focus specifically on strengthening Ukrainian resistance and finding ways to achieve long-term peace. According to Stoltenberg, the main goal of the summit is not only to support Ukraine militarily during active fighting but also to lay the foundation for a future stable peace, which includes both a ceasefire and the signing of a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement. He emphasized that during the gathering, the 32 NATO member countries will discuss how to ensure the best possible conditions for Ukraine’s long-term defense and recovery. The Alliance Secretary General stressed the importance of doing everything possible to support Ukrainian efforts in the most collective manner, "so that Ukraine, as long as fighting continues, receives all necessary military, financial, and humanitarian assistance." He added that it is essential to prevent the recurrence of situations that arose previously, such as in Poland and other countries, to avoid the re-emergence of unresolved diplomatic and security issues, as was the case with the Minsk Agreements. Stoltenberg is confident that the Hague summit will be a step in the right direction and will allow NATO to consolidate its unity and defense capability. He pointed out that the combined potential of 32 countries with a collective economy of over $50 trillion and significant defense expenditures is a guarantee of their ability to protect themselves against potential enemies or aggressors. Regarding the controversy surrounding the possible invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the NATO summit in The Hague, which arose earlier, it should be noted that the situation remains unpredictable. Naturally, there have been internal discussions and accusations, including from the American side, but Ukrainian officials and U.S. representatives have stated that the issue of Zelensky’s participation will be decided directly by the Dutch Secretary General, Mark Rutte. At the same time, Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra noted that the final decision regarding Ukraine’s delegation will be made by Rutte himself. Some U.S. high-ranking officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have officially emphasized that Washington does not oppose Zelensky’s invitation, and this issue is still under discussion. In any case, hosting the summit in The Hague in 2025 is expected to be an important step toward further supporting the Ukrainian people and strengthening NATO’s policy of collective security. As Rutte emphasized, the main point of this discussion is not only about supporting Ukraine but also about understanding that only through a strong and responsive community can new crises be prevented and stability maintained in the region. He is convinced that NATO’s efforts in this direction will bear fruit, and stressed that the development and strengthening of collective defense are key to the security of all of Europe and the entire alliance community.
