Russian occupiers carried out a surprise and cynical drone attack on peaceful residents in Sumy region, resulting in injuries to two people during a humanitarian aid distribution
The incident occurred on Saturday, May 20, around 11 a.m., when local residents gathered near the village of Velyka Pysarivka in Ohtyrka district to receive vital supplies from volunteers and authorities. However, instead of a peaceful event, their laughter or conversations were interrupted by an unexpected drone attack, which deliberately targeted the crowd. According to official information from the Sumy prosecutor's office, published on the agency’s Telegram channel, it was later confirmed that during the attack, two local residents were wounded. The most seriously affected was a 57-year-old man, who was promptly taken to a medical facility. His condition is currently being clarified, but it is known that he sustained serious injuries and requires medical examination and treatment. Another participant in the incident, a 51-year-old resident, received minor injuries and was provided with medical assistance on-site. This attack is one of the latest acts of aggression by Russian military forces in Sumy region, which has repeatedly become a site of cynical strikes and sabotage since the start of the active phase of the war. Local authorities and law enforcement have already launched an investigation into the incident, opening a criminal case under the article that prescribes liability for attacking civilians, violating the rules of conduct in war, or using prohibited means and methods. It is important to note that such actions intentionally violate all norms of international humanitarian law and threaten the lives and health of ordinary citizens, who only seek help to survive in difficult conditions. The circumstances of the attack are currently being clarified; investigatory actions and witness interviews are underway. Local residents are frightened and outraged by this aggression, which threatens their right to safely receive humanitarian aid. At the same time, the community calls for increased security measures at humanitarian points and greater protection for volunteers and civilians remaining in the region. Authorities have promised to do everything possible to stop such crimes and bring those responsible to justice in accordance with Ukrainian laws and international standards.
