Russian forces continue to terrorize residents of the temporarily occupied Kherson, opening fire with artillery on residential neighborhoods of the city
On the morning of May 20, the sound of explosions once again disturbed the peace of local inhabitants, leaving behind destruction and injuries. According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration and the official representative of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the aftermath of this nighttime shelling resulted in four residents wounded, including elderly individuals. Preliminary reports indicate that Russian occupiers conducted artillery shelling on the Korabelnyi district of the city, targeting residential buildings. An explosive projectile that struck near a multi-apartment building caused serious damage: broken windows, damaged facades, and collapsed balconies. As a result, several local residents who were at home during the attack were injured. In total, four people were affected by the attack: a 45-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman sustained blast injuries and cuts, while another resident, aged 88, suffered shrapnel head wounds, concussion, and blast trauma. All received first aid on site—none required hospitalization, although some were in serious condition. Another man, aged 76, sustained shrapnel wounds to the head and arms, concussion, and blast injuries. He was hospitalized in a state of moderate severity. This attack is yet another manifestation of hostilities in the city, which has experienced regular shelling by Russian forces since the occupation began. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, most of the casualties are elderly individuals who were at home at the time of the attack. Simultaneously, the occupiers targeted passenger transportation in the city—resulting in five more people injured and significant damage to a vehicle. These events further confirm the trend of increased violence and destruction in Kherson, which is becoming an increasingly alarming factor for residents and the entire region. Ukrainian law enforcement and military authorities are working to establish all details of the incident and are closely monitoring the situation in the region. Local authorities urge residents to be cautious, follow safety protocols, and avoid staying near potentially dangerous areas during possible shellings. They emphasize that each new attack underscores the need to strengthen defensive measures and seek ways to end the aggression, which has been destroying lives in this region for nearly a year and creating a serious humanitarian crisis.
