Czech Republic and Ukraine have reached an agreement on cooperation in training pilots for F-16 fighters, marking an important step in strengthening our country’s defense capabilities in the context of increased international support

This information is confirmed by a joint statement obtained by "European Pravda," which was published following the meeting between the two Prime Ministers — Denys Shmyhal of Ukraine and Petr Fiala of the Czech Republic — held on May 20 in Uzhhorod. Participants in the negotiations, in particular, agreed on a strategic plan for training Ukrainian pilots. This plan not only includes physical training but also involves significant work in modernizing simulation systems and equipment. According to official sources, this cooperation in training will become a priority for the two countries and will include the creation of modern training centers both in Ukraine and the Czech Republic. This will enable Ukrainian pilots and ground specialists to acquire the necessary skills to operate the latest fighters, including F-16s, as well as aircraft and helicopters of other types. An important aspect of the agreements is not only pilot training but also the preparation of technical personnel—engineers and technicians—who ensure the stable operation of Western aircraft. This will involve implementing specific projects to modernize equipment and maintenance systems, allowing Ukrainian military personnel in the future to independently provide support and repairs for the equipment. The joint statement also highlighted other important areas of cooperation. The Prime Ministers reaffirmed their support for increasing military, financial, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, which is an integral part of its defense strategy. They also emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation between Ukrainian and Czech defense industries—particularly through licensing technologies, aligned with the goals and mechanisms of the "Readiness 2030" strategic plan. Special attention was given to cooperation in third markets, which will open additional opportunities for Ukraine’s defense sector. It is worth noting that this news is a logical continuation of last year’s statements by Ukrainian leadership and foreign partners. On May 4, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine and the Czech Republic are working actively to establish a Ukrainian-Czech pilot training school for F-16s. Just a few days later, it became known that Romania and the Netherlands had reached an agreement to create a joint center for training Ukrainian technical specialists who will handle maintenance of this advanced equipment. Thus, the agreement between the Czech Republic and Ukraine on F-16 pilot training is an important step in implementing plans to enhance our nation's defense capabilities and prepare its military for modern challenges. It demonstrates the strengthening of strategic partnership between the countries, both aiming to make Ukraine less vulnerable and more self-reliant in defense matters. This cooperation opens new opportunities for improving military programs, developing the defense industry, and deepening international ties in support of Ukraine’s fight for independence and territorial integrity.
