The operation, which has been ongoing for over nine months, plays an important role in the country’s defense system, assured the press center of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the General Staff, the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces operating in the border regions of Kursk Oblast are currently undergoing a tough and exhausting phase of combat. They are carrying out complex tasks aimed at holding strategically important positions and preventing further advancement of Russian forces in the region. Military officials insist that despite the difficulties and high levels of enemy resistance, Ukrainian forces continue to operate effectively, utilizing asymmetric methods, including active defense and tactics based on previous operational experience. The General Staff notes that the main goal of the operation is to create a buffer zone along the border regions with Russia. This helps reduce the risk of enemy offensives in Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts, as well as protect Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The operation involves the use of various forces and resources, including the deployment of reserves such as airborne units and marines, which were previously involved in strengthening offensive actions in the districts of Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and Orikhiv. The Deputy Chief of the General Staff expressed confidence that Ukrainian military personnel are successfully inflicting losses on the enemy, particularly destroying enemy personnel, equipment, and weapons on Russian territory, which is an important element of the country’s strategic security. He emphasized that these measures help defend peaceful towns and villages in Sumy and Kharkiv oblasts, preventing enemy advancement deeper into Ukrainian territory. The background to this message was an internal crisis within the military command. A well-known commander of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Magura," Alexander Shyrshyn, known by the call sign "Genius," publicly expressed harsh criticism of the operation’s leadership. He called the assigned tasks "foolish" and ineffectual in protecting personnel, accusing the command of losing people without proper reason and taking unnecessary high risks. Shyrshyn submitted a report requesting his removal from his position, stating that he is completely dissatisfied with the situation on the battlefield and the command decisions. Meanwhile, the General Staff announced the formation of a special working group to thoroughly investigate the circumstances outlined in the commander's publication, and promised that appropriate personnel and organizational decisions would be made based on the results of the review. Thus, the situation in Kursk remains complex and tense. Ukrainian military forces emphasize that further efforts in this operation are of strategic importance for preventing broader escalation and ensuring the security of Ukrainian sovereignty. Simultaneously, internal disputes and crises within the command indicate a high level of tension and the necessity for further analysis of tactics and management in wartime conditions. This issue will remain relevant in the context of future decisions and strategic planning for the defense of our country.
