In this dialogue, the leaders discussed several key aspects of cooperation, including questions of defense assistance, sanctions pressure on Russia, and further interaction within the “coalition of the willing” — a concept of international partnerships uniting countries ready to support Ukraine and strengthen its defense capability in the fight against Russian subjugation. Zelensky learned about the latest diplomatic negotiations that took place in Istanbul and acknowledged that the current situation with Russian aggression is becoming increasingly tense and dire due to the Kremlin’s deliberate efforts to prolong the war and commit new atrocities. At the same time, the Ukrainian leader emphasized that Kyiv consistently coordinates its actions with American partners, including President Donald Trump, ensuring unity in foreign policy and strategic goals. During the meeting, discussions also covered potential sanctions capable of forcing Russia to abandon its ruthless demands and return to negotiations under just and secure conditions for Ukraine. Zelensky stressed that joint international pressure and strict restrictions could bring the situation back to peace. “We greatly value our allies from different continents. Together, we can do more to accelerate the return of peace by applying sanctions pressure and diplomacy,” he said. Special attention in the negotiations was paid to defense cooperation. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese informed his Ukrainian colleague that the first group of Abrams tanks is already heading to Ukraine as part of aid, and the total support has reached 1.5 billion dollars. He emphasized that “Russia’s illegal aggression must be stopped,” and expressed Australia’s unequivocal support in its efforts to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence: “We are in solidarity with you in the fight for freedom. Of course, we call for peace, but at the same time are confident that Ukraine itself should determine its future and has the right to self-determination.” The meeting also discussed future plans regarding Australia's participation in the “coalition of the willing” and the creation of security guarantees for Ukraine after establishing a long-term and just peace. The leaders stressed that this initiative could become an important step in the country's long-term support, ensuring its security and stability in the future. Overall, the conversation confirmed that Ukraine maintains an active diplomatic stance and continues seeking new pathways for cooperation with its international allies in countering Russian aggression. Participants emphasized the importance of unity and joint efforts to achieve peace and security for Ukraine, and affirmed a firm commitment to continue supporting at all diplomatic levels.
