The National Guard of Ukraine has showcased a new revolutionary model of military equipment, which will significantly enhance the mobility and effectiveness of units in modern combat conditions
Oleksandr Pivnenko, the Commander of the National Guard, introduced an upgraded multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) based on the popular HMMWV off-road vehicle. This innovative complex is one of the first of its kind in the Ukrainian military and opens new horizons in the tactics of using rocket artillery. According to the Commander-in-Chief, the novelty possesses unique characteristics that make it extremely mobile and passable even in the most difficult road and off-road conditions. The MLRS can reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour, allowing quick repositioning and reducing the risks of enemy counter-battery strikes. The maximum firing range of this model is 40 kilometers—sufficient to strike targets within the conflict zone. The commander emphasized that the current system is equipped with modern electronic warfare (EW) tools capable of countering enemy reconnaissance drones, remote intelligence assets, and radar systems. It ensures increased concealment and complicates enemy detection of Ukrainian units during deployment. In his view, this is a response to modern warfare challenges, where speed, invisibility, and maneuverability become key advantages. “The electronic warfare systems installed in this new equipment enable us to successfully counter enemy drones and radar systems, reducing the likelihood of our unit's detection. This allows us not only to respond quickly but also to efficiently strike targets even under challenging conditions,” Pivnenko stated. “Especially important is that this system meets modern requirements for compactness and mobility, capable of supporting tactical units at the company and battalion levels. In active conflict conditions, mobile and low-visibility equipment allow our soldiers to act swiftly and precisely, avoiding counter-battery ambushes and maintaining high combat readiness.” The Commander also pointed out that the developed system directly takes into account the tactics of “maneuver warfare,” which is becoming crucial in modern armed conflicts. As Pivnenko notes, a key feature of this equipment is its high speed of movement and ability for rapid reconfiguration, allowing the Ukrainian army to be more flexible and unpredictable for the enemy. Overall, this new rocket system, based on the HMMWV off-road vehicle and equipped with modern tactical and electronic means, will significantly expand the arsenal of the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It will improve the ability to respond swiftly to changing battlefield conditions, reduce vulnerability to the enemy, and enhance target engagement efficiency in the complexities of modern warfare. This is yet another step toward equipping the Ukrainian military with modern, mobile, and high-tech machinery capable of defending the state and winning in the fight for independence and territorial integrity.
