President Zelenskyy informed Swiss President Keler-Zutter about negotiations in Istanbul and current steps towards resolving the situation in Ukraine
In Rome, during an official meeting with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy provided a detailed account of the latest negotiations held in Istanbul and outlined the key areas for further actions to resolve the conflict and restore Ukraine. The meeting served as a platform to discuss not only the front-line situation but also a broad range of humanitarian, economic, and political issues that require joint efforts from the international community. The main topic of the meeting was, of course, the cessation of fire across all of Ukraine. Zelenskyy emphasized that stopping hostilities is the primary step toward peace, and therefore, it is necessary to increase pressure on Russia and ensure international support to achieve this goal. The President highlighted the importance of consistent coordination with the USA and other allies to maintain unity in diplomacy and on the front lines, and to take the first tangible step toward ending the war — a complete and unconditional ceasefire. The conversation also touched upon issues such as humanitarian demining, supporting educational projects in affected regions, and measures to ensure food security for Ukrainian communities. Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian authorities are making every effort to restore school operations and provide children with stable nutrition, which is one of the essential prerequisites for returning to peaceful life. The President also paid special attention to information regarding the negotiations in Turkish Istanbul. He stressed that these consultations are of significant importance and form a basis for further diplomatic work. Zelenskyy noted, “The President emphasized how crucial it is to stay in close coordination with the USA, to maintain unity, and to press together on Russia with the aim of achieving the first very important step — a ceasefire, which would mark the beginning of a long path toward peace.” Also on the agenda is support for Ukraine’s economy and infrastructure recovery. Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine is actively working to attract international partners to rebuild damaged regions, including engaging Swiss companies with experience in reconstruction and investment. Continued financial support is especially vital so that Ukraine can recover more quickly and return to a stable and peaceful life. In turn, Karin Keller-Sutter assured that Switzerland will continue to support Ukraine both in humanitarian initiatives and in economic aid and diplomatic efforts. She highlighted the importance of international collective work to achieve peace and stability in the region, and announced her intention to involve Swiss companies in projects for the restoration of Ukrainian towns and villages. Overall, the Rome meeting was another testament to the international community’s concern for Ukraine’s fate and the importance of joint efforts to end the war and rebuild the country. President Zelenskyy reiterated that only united actions can achieve the long-desired peace, and called on the global community not to lose sight of this critically important task.
