According to an official statement by the Ukrainian leader, published on Facebook, the conversation took place in a warm and constructive atmosphere, during which Zelensky thanked for the support and assured of his readiness for fruitful cooperation. "Thank you, Mark Carney, for the warm meeting. We discussed the interaction between our countries within the so-called 'coalition of the willing' and the importance of further steps toward achieving long-awaited peace in Ukraine. I am glad that our efforts in the fields of defense, countering Russian aggression, supporting the economy, and international initiatives are well coordinated," Zelensky noted. The head of state reported that during the meeting, they thoroughly discussed the situation regarding Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian civilian objects. He paid particular attention to the need to strengthen air defense in order to protect the lives and safety of Ukrainian citizens. "Ukraine needs to enhance its air defense systems to reduce the number of victims and prevent new attacks," he emphasized. Another important item on the agenda was the negotiations in Istanbul, during which prospects for conflict resolution and possible diplomatic mechanisms were discussed. Zelensky emphasized that coordinating efforts between countries must remain a priority in order to achieve stable and lasting peace. The President also underscored that the upcoming sanctions against Russia should be as strong and comprehensive as possible, with a special focus on the energy sector and the shadow fleet of the Kremlin regime. In his view, this would create additional pressure on the aggressor and compel it to take real steps toward peace. Zelensky sincerely thanked the Canadian Prime Minister for the invitation to participate in the G7 summit, highlighting the importance of Ukraine's involvement in global discussions on security and stability. Such institutional contacts open additional opportunities for exploring political and economic solutions, and they help strengthen international support and solidarity. Overall, the high-level meeting demonstrates an intensification of cooperation between Ukraine and Canada during a difficult period in history, when the international community stands united in opposing Russian aggression and seeking pathways to peace.
