Russian “Molniya” drones inflicted deadly damage on Kostiantynivka, killing two civilians and wounding three others

On Friday, May 16, 2025, the city of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region was again a victim of aggression by Russian troops. According to the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, as a result of an attack with "Molniya" drone-mine devices, two adult civilians were killed, and three other residents were injured of varying severity. The agency reports that around 11:30 a.m., a strike was heard near the city center. Preliminary information indicates that Russian military forces used a "Molniya-1" drone, which dropped munitions on residential areas. As a result, a 55-year-old man driving a car near the attack site was wounded. Medical professionals confirmed that his injuries were incompatible with life, and the man died at the scene. Additionally, another man aged 57, who was near the shelter at the site of the attack, was killed when debris and shrapnel tore through him during the explosion. Two local women, aged 53 and 72, were injured as a result of the blast. They sustained shrapnel wounds, burns of various degrees, and mine-explosive trauma. Both were urgently transported to the hospital, where they are receiving necessary medical treatment. Just a few minutes after the first attack, at 11:45 a.m., another strike was carried out by a Russian kamikaze drone. This time, a 72-year-old woman at the city market was injured. She sustained severe mine-explosive wounds and shrapnel injuries, and her condition is assessed as critical. After first aid was provided, her superficial wounds were closed, and she was urgently hospitalized. Eyewitnesses report that the cause of the strikes involves a repeated attack by Russian unmanned complexes aimed at destroying civilian infrastructure and increasing panic among local residents. The local authorities urge residents to exercise caution and avoid open spaces during alarms. The situation in Kostiantynivka remains tense. The suffering of civilians from enemy drones is increasing, and local authorities call on the international community to intensify diplomatic pressure on Russia to cease such unprecedented aggression. Meanwhile, law enforcement and security services are conducting investigations into the incident and are trying to determine the extent of the damage and identify possible perpetrators of this attack.
