Ukraine prepared for negotiations in Turkey: issues of a 30-day ceasefire will be discussed, but with caution
According to Ukrainian institutes and international sources, Ukraine is getting ready for a new round of talks with the Russian side, which will take place in Turkey. Government circles note that the main goal of the meeting will be to discuss the possibility of implementing and monitoring an unconditional 30-day ceasefire proposed by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. Although official details regarding the delegation’s composition have not yet been published, it is known that the Ukrainian side will focus solely on ensuring and enforcing this short-term truce. Based on information received from sources, including The Wall Street Journal and Ukrainian public broadcasting "Suspilne," the Ukrainian administration is betting on diplomacy to stabilize the situation at the front before further compromises and possible agreements. It is worth noting that as early as March of this year, Ukrainian officials repeatedly stated their readiness to agree to a three-week or one-month ceasefire, but Russia’s position remained unchanged. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and other representative bodies have repeatedly emphasized that currently, the focus is only on a short-term pause necessary to reduce tension and restore diplomatic dialogue. Regarding the Russian side, sources within the Kremlin revealed that the negotiations will be led personally by President Vladimir Putin’s aide, Dmitry Medynsky. Interestingly, this experienced diplomat has previously represented Russia in early-stage talks during the initial phase of full-scale aggression. Preliminary reports from Russian media indicate that the negotiations were scheduled to begin in the morning, around 10 a.m., but in the evening, information appeared that their opening would be delayed until lunchtime. This suggests a deliberate approach by both sides and perhaps an intention to avoid rushing into complex diplomatic negotiations. Overall, amid the tense situation, even unofficial signals from both sides indicate their willingness to seek a compromise, albeit with caution and careful consideration of each step. It is expected that this meeting will become another important test of diplomatic efforts and possibly mark the beginning of a new phase in conflict resolution, which has long become one of the main challenges for the international community.
