Against the backdrop of Russian aggression: an enemy drone attacked a vehicle with humanitarian aid in Kherson region, injuring the driver

In the dangerous twilight of an environment that continues to be destroyed under the pressure of Russian forces, another unfortunate incident occurred in the Kherson oblast: hostile unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) attacked a vehicle carrying humanitarian aid to the region’s residents. This provocation is yet another vivid example of the dangerous choice made by the occupiers to target civilian objects and humanitarian missions, highlighting their ruthless and cynical tactics. According to information published by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office via their official Telegram channel, as well as by the head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, late on the evening of May 14, around 21:50, an attempt by an enemy drone to dramatically interfere with the movement of humanitarian supplies took place in the Beryslav district. As a result of the attack, the vehicle transporting aid to the local population was damaged, and the driver was wounded and promptly hospitalized. Preliminary investigations, which are already actively underway by law enforcement agencies, indicate that the occupiers used an unmanned aerial vehicle to drop explosive devices, causing an explosion and sudden impact. The injured man — a 48-year-old — sustained wounds whose details are currently being determined; his condition is assessed as serious but stable. Medical personnel provided him with necessary assistance at a medical facility, and investigative actions are ongoing to establish all circumstances of the incident. This incident is yet another illustration of how Russian occupants ignore all international conventions and human standards in the war against Ukraine. They deliberately target civilian objects and humanitarian convoys, aiming to intimidate the population, disrupt the supply of vital resources, and thwart any attempts to aid those affected by military actions. Over the past day, Russian forces continued relentless combat operations in Kherson region. Using artillery, aircraft, and drone attacks, the enemy struck 34 settlements in the area, including the city of Kherson. The main goal of the Russians is to destroy infrastructure and intimidate the local population. As a result of enemy shelling, several residential areas were damaged, including an apartment building and 12 private homes. Besides damaging housing, the occupiers also destroyed and mutilated private vehicles owned by local residents. According to local police and medical services, at least nine civilians, including children, were injured in the attacks. All of them sustained wounds requiring immediate medical assistance and hospitalization. This new wave of destruction and human tragedy once again underscores the ruthlessness and cynicism of Russian soldiers, who, with no regard for moral boundaries, proceed to destroy peaceful communities. The investigation is ongoing; law enforcement authorities are collecting evidence and testimonies to hold those responsible for war crimes accountable. During investigative measures, special attention is given to identifying and prosecuting those involved in using prohibited methods of warfare, particularly the deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles for attacks on civilian objects. Ukraine and its law enforcement agencies once again call on the international community to intensify pressure on Russia to bring war criminals to justice and to ensure the safety of civilians, who face destruction, pain, and fear every day. The heroic efforts of law enforcement officers in the fight for justice and peace remain crucial in this struggle against relentless aggression.
