In Spain, former Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleg Gladkovskiy, was detained, which caused significant resonance within Ukrainian political and law enforcement circles
This was reported by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), which confirmed the detention on Spanish territory. According to a source from SAP, the information was received on May 14 of this year. On that day, Spanish law enforcement agencies detained Gladkovskiy in accordance with Ukraine's international obligations within a criminal case. The press service emphasizes that the detention is related to investigations involving the former official, who is accused of financial misconduct and causing significant damage to the state. "On May 14, in the Kingdom of Spain, local law enforcement detained the former First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, who is charged in a criminal case initiated by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. Preliminary estimates indicate that the amount of damages caused to the state is approximately 17.44 million hryvnias," the SAP representative clarified. Currently, Spanish law enforcement agencies are considering the possibility of extraditing Gladkovskiy to Ukraine, where he would face trial for the charges against him. Official information about further steps has not yet been published, but the extradition process typically may take several weeks or even months, depending on legal procedures and bilateral agreements. This news worries Ukrainian political circles, as Gladkovskiy has long been one of the key figures in the field of national security, and his detention abroad could stimulate further investigations within large-scale anti-corruption efforts. Moreover, this case underscores the importance of Ukraine's international cooperation with law enforcement agencies of other countries in the fight against corruption and abuse of power. So far, no official comments have been received from Spanish law enforcement or representatives of Gladkovskiy regarding the situation. Ukrainian society and the media are actively discussing this news, as it is yet another signal of the principled stance of Ukrainian authorities in fighting corruption schemes, as well as the ability of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies to operate internationally to seek justice.
