On the night of May 12 to 13, the analytical project DeepState reported a new phase of military actions in eastern Ukraine. According to their information, Russian troops made a partial advance in the city of Toretsk, as well as near several settlements in the Pokrovsk direction, in Donetsk region. This indicates that the enemy is actively trying to consolidate new positions despite efforts by Ukrainian defenders. According to an updated combat map from DeepState, Russian occupiers have pushed somewhat deeper into Toretsk territory, which is of strategic importance for the region's defense. Additionally, there are reports of advances near the settlements of Romanivka and Novoolenivka — small but tactically significant settlements located in the Pokrovsk direction. This entire region remains tense and under constant fire. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, more than 130 combat clashes have taken place on the frontline since the morning of May 12, 50 of which occurred specifically in the Pokrovsk direction. This indicates active confrontation and a tense situation that continues to complicate the military environment in the region. Meanwhile, world leaders continue to call for peace. On Saturday, May 10, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Poland jointly issued a statement demanding an unconditional ceasefire in eastern Ukraine for at least 30 days, starting from May 12. They emphasize that this is necessary to unblock the negotiation process and reduce human casualties. At the same time, the Kremlin’s response was swift. The Russian government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that negotiations with Russia cannot be conducted through ultimatums and pressure. In response to Western demands for a ceasefire and additional sanctions if peace efforts fail, Moscow emphasizes that any actions regarding Ukraine must be coordinated with Russia and take into account its interests. Given this tense situation, further escalation or new rounds of negotiations can be expected. However, it is currently clear that the frontline remains tense, and ongoing hostilities continue to disrupt the peaceful life of regional residents, diminishing the prospects for a quick resolution of the conflict.
