The American president, commenting on the prospects of signing a new trade deal with the EU, dismissed the European side, hinting at its unfair treatment of the US and the proposed restrictions. According to Trump, after concluding a trade agreement with China, the situation with the European Union leaves much to be desired. "The EU in many important aspects is worse than China," he stated in a recent interview, adding, "They will give in significantly. You'll see. We have all the cards." The White House chief underlined that the United States has strong leverage and will not be deceived or forced to make concessions. At the same time, in a contrasting context, Trump expressed positive words about European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, calling her "fantastic" and expressing hope for a quick meeting with her. This highlights opposition to her role in negotiations and an internal contradiction in the diplomatic relations between the US and the EU. Overall, the situation around trade negotiations between Washington and Brussels remains tense. Despite several rounds of talks, none have resulted in a significant breakthrough, and the issue of lifting tariffs and duties remains unresolved. In April this year, Trump assured that the US and the European Union would reach a new trade agreement, but as of today, there has been no progress. In response, the EU is considering imposing tariffs on American airplanes and automobiles to pressure Washington to cancel existing and promising tariffs against the EU. These measures are part of a strategic struggle for economic influence and negotiation positions, which are currently in deep stalemate.
