Russian forces have once again struck the Ukrainian south, deliberately damaging the civilian infrastructure of the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi in Odesa Region
The incident occurred on the morning of May 12 and resulted in serious destruction among residential buildings and communal facilities, causing significant concern among locals. This information was reported by the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi city council on their official Facebook page, confirming the consequences of the attack and the commencement of rescue operations. According to city officials, the Russian occupiers attacked the city during a lull between night and morning on May 12. As a result of the strike, several important residential and social facilities suffered severe damage. Particularly affected were private residential homes located in the city center, as well as critical infrastructure objects necessary for providing basic living needs to the population. Consequently, residents found themselves without electricity, water, and heat, further complicating the situation in a city already under prolonged military pressure. The city council responded swiftly to the situation by establishing an operational response headquarters, located on the first floor of the city hall at 56 Mykhailivska Street. According to local officials, work is ongoing to eliminate the consequences of the shelling and restore infrastructure. Details regarding the number of casualties or the exact extent of the damage are currently being clarified, but the local authorities urged residents to stay at home and follow safety measures. This event served as another reminder of the dangerous situation in southern Ukraine, where Russian occupiers have intensified their attacks. It is also noteworthy that on the night of May 12, Ukrainian defenders recorded a mass attack by Russian drones. According to the Ukrainian Air Forces, the enemy employed 108 strike drones of the Shahed type and various decoys. Ukrainian air defense systems managed to shoot down 66 lethal drones, with about thirty others either destroyed or lost in the area without causing harm to people or infrastructure. These efforts to defend the airspace helped prevent the most catastrophic consequences, although the attacks still caused significant psychological and material stress for Ukrainians, especially for peaceful residents of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. Local authorities are urging residents to be extremely cautious when receiving alarm notifications and to follow safety recommendations, as the war continues, and each new strike is a reminder of the price Ukrainians pay for their independence and security.
