In his official statement, released via the social network X (formerly Twitter), and during a virtual meeting of the “Decisive Coalition for Ukraine” leaders organized by the United Kingdom and France with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Japanese Prime Minister urged Russia to cease hostilities. According to the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, within the framework of international efforts to seek peace in Ukraine, Shigeru Ishiba emphasized the importance of global cooperation to achieve stability and security. He underlined that any possible services or actions by Russia should be aimed at creating favorable conditions for ending military hostilities and restoring justice. “Peace in Ukraine is of great importance not only for the region but also for global security,” the Japanese Prime Minister stated. “That is why it is crucial for the international community to act jointly and decisively, supporting efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution of the conflict.” In his address, Ishiba expressed optimism and a firm intention for Japan to continue supporting the strengthening of Ukraine’s economic and social stability. According to him, a stable and long-lasting balance in this part of the world is an essential element of global security. The Prime Minister expressed hope that the recent “Decisive Coalition” meeting on May 10 would become another step towards the goal of achieving fair and lasting peace in Ukraine. Regarding the prerequisites for this diplomatic activity, it should be noted that, within the framework of the coalition of leaders organized on May 10, which includes the United Kingdom, France, and Ukraine, a clear political demand was made to Russia — to impose an unconditional ceasefire for 30 days starting May 12. According to the instructions of the international community, this should serve as the first step toward diplomatic resolution of the conflict. If Russia refuses, it is reported that the European Union and the United States are prepared to increase sanctions against Moscow, including the possible sharp escalation of economic pressure. Thus, global diplomacy, in this complex situation, demonstrates a unified stance: restoring peace in Ukraine and ensuring stability in the region requires coordinated actions and a constructive approach from Russia. Currently, there is no specific information about possible steps from the Kremlin; however, the position of many countries and leaders is clear — to directly or indirectly call for an end to hostilities and return to diplomatic strategies for resolving the crisis. Ukraine remains on the path to peace, hopeful for international support and the dynamic development of diplomatic processes in the future.
