In an interview with the German newspaper «Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung», he clearly outlined Berlin’s position: Ukraine’s path to NATO membership is «irreversible», and no external influences or political manipulations can alter this trend. This is yet another signal from official Berlin reaffirming the unchanging German policy on Ukraine’s integration into the defense alliance. According to the minister, this course is based on the unified stance of NATO allies, which supports Ukraine’s accession prospects. «We have jointly agreed that Ukraine’s NATO membership process is irreversible, and Germany firmly adheres to this decision,» Waderful emphasized, adding that other member countries also support this policy. Waderful’s statement came amid ongoing discussions about Ukraine’s future within the broader Euro-Atlantic space. Despite diplomatic pressure from certain Western countries and internal opponents within Germany, the official Berlin confirmed its commitment to continued support for Ukraine’s pursuit of full NATO membership. Recently, points of contention and nuances also arose regarding the US proposal. According to American media, the administration of former President Donald Trump handed over a one-page document to Kyiv in Paris, which was officially labeled as the «final proposal» for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The document included, among other things, a ban for Ukraine to join any military alliances, including NATO, which sparked criticism and alarm in Kyiv and among other allies. Against this backdrop, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed hope that the US would reconsider its disagreement with Ukraine’s NATO accession. She stressed that the security situation in Europe and Ukraine’s people’s desire to defend their independence and territorial integrity should take precedence, and that Ukraine’s NATO membership prospects are entirely realistic and vital for strengthening regional security. These statements seem to confirm that global leaders increasingly agree — Ukraine’s path to the Euro-Atlantic community is irreversible and must be taken into account in any diplomatic and political negotiations. At the same time, behind these high-profile diplomatic declarations, there are nuances and complex issues, including the disclosure of details about «peace agreements,» which could influence the regional dynamics. Overall, the official position of Germany and other Western officials indicates a firm intention to support and defend Ukraine’s right to NATO membership, despite external pressures and internal political debates. In light of these events, it becomes quite clear that Kyiv has every reason to insist on its course, and the international community should back Ukraine’s legitimate and strategically important steps toward security independence and European integration.
