During the night from May 9 to May 10, the Pakistani government unexpectedly announced a large-scale military offensive against India, marking another escalation in the tense regional situation
An official representative of the Pakistani authorities posted on the popular social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that an operation called BUNYAN UN MARSOOS had begun and was already underway as part of relevant military measures. The message appeared suddenly and was actively discussed both among military circles and international observers. The text stated literally: “Operation BUNYAN UN MARSOOS has started,” which translates from English as: “Operation BUNYAN UN MARSOOS has started.” This was also confirmed by official Pakistani government sources under the hashtag #PakistanZindabad, which literally means “Long live Pakistan,” adding a patriotic tone to the message. The reason for such a sharp step was the escalation of the conflict last week, when on May 7, India conducted preventive strikes on neighboring territory, claiming that it attacked positions of militants who have long been accused of preparing terrorist acts and some attacks on Indian territory. The Indian government stated that it had allegedly hit targets that served as bases for terrorist groups on the Pakistani side of the border. This drew sharp condemnation from Islamabad, which promised to respond with “appropriate measures” and to punish those responsible for the aggression. Interestingly, just prior to this conflict, on Wednesday, May 7, Indian forces launched strikes on targets within Pakistani territory, which they claimed were hideouts for militants. This further heightened tensions, as Pakistan insisted that its territory should not be used for planning terrorist activities and called on the international community to intervene in the situation. The reaction of the international community remains restrained so far, although experts warn of possible escalation and significant consequences for the region. Several foreign ministries have called for restraint and avoiding any actions that could lead to further deterioration of the situation. Currently, there are no official reports regarding the number or nature of the forces used or plans for further actions. Despite the traditional diplomatic rhetoric, it is emphasized that any military response should be proportional and aimed at stabilizing the situation. Overall, the events in the region remain tense, as both countries show readiness to escalate the conflict, which threatens to turn into a local or even global crisis. International observers describe the situation as potentially very dangerous, since any actions by one side could trigger an uncontrollable chain reaction. In general, the conflict map remains unpredictable and unstable, and all interested parties are urged to pursue balanced and diplomatic steps to prevent further destabilization of the region.
