According to the head of the Serbian state, his meeting with the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, took on special significance and was held in a warm, fraternal atmosphere, symbolizing the strong historical and political ties between the two countries. As reported by "European Pravda," citing an official post by Vučić on his Instagram account, he called this event a “brotherly meeting,” emphasizing that Serbs and Slovaks are “brothers forever.” On his page, he shared a video showing him warmly shaking hands with Prime Minister Fico, adding a sense of particular warmth and humanity to the image of this diplomatic encounter. This meeting took place in the context of grand celebratory events held in Moscow dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The festivities brought together leaders from many countries who traveled from around the world to attend the ceremonies. Specifically, prominent politicians from various European and global nations gathered in the Russian capital to take part in the commemorative events. According to the Russian state television channel RTS, a traditional reception was held in the Kremlin on the evening of May 8, hosted by President Vladimir Putin. The official dinner gathered leaders of states who came to Moscow to celebrate Victory Day on May 9. During this event, Vučić mentioned that he had many “heartfelt meetings” with colleagues, with whom it is rarely possible to maintain direct contact due to tense diplomatic situations or geographical distance. Notably, the scheduled meetings on Friday are significant, during which Vučić plans to discuss key issues with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, as well as hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to the Serbian president, particular attention will be paid to energy security issues, including cooperation in the supply of Russian gas. It is also interesting that high-ranking officials from the region were present at the Moscow celebrations — specifically, the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, who also attended the ceremonial events. This underscores the level of strategic cooperation between these countries and their leaders. It is important to note that Fico and Vučić were the only guests at the level of presidents among European leaders who received invitations to participate in the commemorative events in Moscow on May 9. Usually, many world leaders gather in Moscow on this day, but the Serbian and Slovak prime ministers were the only representatives of the European Union to attend at the head of state level. The background to this historic meeting was that, due to diplomatic complications related to restrictions on air travel imposed by the Baltic countries, Robert Fico was forced to seek alternative routes to Moscow. As a result, his plane arrived in Russia on the evening of May 8, serving as an additional political statement and confirming his interest in maintaining a special dialogue with the Russian leadership. Thus, this meeting became a symbol of new diplomatic efforts that, despite difficulties, demonstrate the countries’ desire to maintain close relations regardless of external challenges and political upheavals. It once again highlights the importance of traditional alliances, historical ties, and the pursuit of dialogue in complex international circumstances.
