Law enforcement officers exposed the deputy rector of the Bogdan Khmelnytskyi National Academy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine for abuse of power and theft
The incident gained publicity due to searches conducted, during which numerous evidence of misconduct by one of the leading employees of the institution was found. According to sources within the State Border Guard Service, as well as materials from the investigation and confirmed data from the State Bureau of Investigation, the case involves Colonel Petr Tkachuk, who held the position of deputy rector and had direct access to the management structures of the academy. During the investigation, it was established that the officer used his official position to carry out corruption schemes related to illicit enrichment. Based on the facts presented, Tkachuk, with the assistance of military personnel and university staff, organized and began constructing a private residential house on the campus and nearby areas. It is important to note that during the investigative actions on May 6, authorized searches were carried out at several locations — in the defendant’s household, construction sites, and in the academy’s official premises. As a result of these measures, investigators seized a number of items and documents significant to the investigation. In addition, during the searches at the private residence, building materials and equipment that had been illegally appropriated were discovered and confiscated. Documents with inventory numbers, marked on furniture and appliances belonging to the academy, were also found among the seized materials. According to investigators, such evidence confirms the illegal appropriation of the academy’s property by the vice-rector. As a result of the collected evidence and investigative actions, on May 8, Petr Tkachuk was detained by court order. At the same time, the court allowed his release on a bail of 450,000 hryvnias. Moreover, he was suspended from his position until the completion of the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, aiming to clarify all circumstances and the extent of possible abuse by the official. Meanwhile, the academy’s leadership has expressed its support for law enforcement and confirmed that the case is under control, emphasizing that public service must remain honest and transparent. It is expected that the results of the investigation will be made public in the near future to ensure objectivity and legal justice in this matter.
