“Victory Day” Paradox — in reality, active hostilities: Russia is attacking Sumy region again on May 8, despite reports of a so-called “parade” organized by Vladimir Putin’s regime, which is supposedly meant to symbolize a truce until Victory Day

However, the true situation is far from peaceful. Since the start of the day, the occupiers launched a new large-scale attack on the territory of Sumy Oblast, dropping over a hundred guided aerial bombs. According to Colonel Yuriy Ignat, a representative of Ukraine’s Air Force command, this night can be called the most intense in recent times. In a national telethon, he emphasized: “We have all seen Russia’s real reaction to the so-called 'parade truce,' which it itself announced. Since the early hours, Ukrainian military forces have recorded numerous airstrikes — the shelling of Sumy region began directly at midnight. Russian pilots are actively employing guided aerial bombs, and the number of such munitions has already reached nearly a hundred. It’s important to stress that there was no 'parade' whatsoever — on the contrary, the enemy is using aviation for targeted strikes against civilians and infrastructure objects.” Ignat added that the attack specifically on Sumy region has continued from morning until midday. This assault is one of the largest in the area in recent times. A significant number of enemy aircrafts were engaged in this bombing raid. According to him, about a hundred guided aerial bombs have already been recorded as having fallen on the region. This indicates that Russian forces are preparing for major offensive operations and have no intention of relinquishing their air superiority tactics. Furthermore, the legal advisor noted that the threat of aviation weapon use exists on other sectors of the front as well. Specifically, in the south and east of the country, Russian military activity has increased, particularly the number of drones detected near the combat line, especially along the Dnipro river. This suggests that the enemy is trying to maintain control not only on the ground but also in the air, conducting aerial offensives and continuously employing tactical aviation to reinforce strikes. Amid these events, Ukrainian armed forces continue to strengthen their defenses and prepare for possible new attacks. It is evident that, despite internal political statements and official remarks from the country's leadership, the actual situation at the front dramatically differs from official reports of a supposedly established ceasefire regime. Russia is demonstrating its true attitude toward the "parade" and Victory Day celebrations — in the form of new missile and air strikes aimed at destroying infrastructure, residential buildings, and military targets in the region. Deputy commanders emphasize that the escalation of aggression is not accidental. Such actions are intended to demonstrate to the world that Russia is willing to take any measures to increase pressure and raise the stakes in the war, regardless of official statements about a “ceasefire.” Currently, the situation remains tense and highly dynamic, with Ukrainian military personnel diligently working to protect civilians and minimize the consequences of another enemy attack. The global community continues to monitor this situation, and many analysts point out that any so-called “ceasefire” amid active hostilities is merely a cover for Russia to regroup its forces and prepare for new large-scale offensives.
