According to their report, on that day, Ukrainian air defenses fought against the third wave of attacks within 24 hours, which lasted approximately from 14:30 to 20:30. During this time, the Russians launched 31 strike UAVs and target imitators — drones designed to confuse air defense systems. Official information states that Ukrainian forces destroyed 20 of these enemy UAVs, primarily Shahed attack drones. The good news is that since the start of the Russian attack on May 7th, no new enemy drones have been detected remaining in the air over Ukraine. At the same time, the enemy intensified ground-based aviation activity, employing tactical aircraft — notably, guided aerobic bombs were used in strikes against the Sumy region. Recall that between 14:30 and 20:30 on May 7th, the enemy assessed their forces and decided to deploy 31 UAVs, including attack drones and imitators — originating from Millerovo district, located within Russian territory. Ukrainian air defense successfully neutralized 20 of them, confirmed by data from the north and center of the country. It is also noted that six enemy drone-imitators were destroyed using electronic warfare (EW) systems, which operated without negative effects on Ukrainian military personnel. In the Cherkasy region, some damage was recorded after the attack, but Ukrainian forces responded quickly to prevent further consequences. It is also known that as of the morning of May 8th, the situation in Ukraine’s airspace has become more stable. By morning, Ukrainian forces had not recorded any new missile strikes or drone kamikaze infiltrations — the situation remains under control. However, enemy activity continues. According to Ukrainian command, during the night, Russian troops employed tactical aircraft to carry out a series of strikes with guided bombs on Sumy region. This indicates the aggressor's ongoing efforts to hit border regions, increasing tension and creating additional challenges for the country’s defenses. Overall, the situation in Ukraine’s skies remains tense, but Ukrainian air defense demonstrates high effectiveness, protecting civilians and critical infrastructure from another round of Russian attacks.
