On Thursday, the country’s parliament — the Seimas of Lithuania — adopted a historic resolution, unequivocally stating that it will never recognize the territories seized by Russia in Ukraine as Russian territory under any circumstances — neither legally nor factually. This decision sent an important signal to the international community, outlining unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid ongoing aggression. A total of 118 deputies voted in favor of the document; none abstained or opposed. In their appeal to society and the global community, Lithuanian parliamentarians emphasize: “No occupation of Ukrainian territory undertaken and continuing by the Russian Federation will be recognized by the Lithuanian Parliament, neither de jure nor de facto.” The resolution clearly states that Ukraine is an independent and sovereign state with the right to defend its territory, shape its internal and external policies, and define its security doctrine. It also underscores that Ukraine’s borders are those recognized by the international community since 1991, at the time of its independence. Remigijus Motuzas, head of the Foreign Affairs Committee representing the draft resolution, stressed: “This is an extremely important moment — not only to stop the unjust war and strengthen long-term peace but also to do everything possible to restore the integrity of Ukrainian territories.” According to him, this document should serve as an example for other countries, and he calls on his colleagues in other parliamentary bodies around the world to adopt similar decisions that affirm unconditional support for Ukraine and guarantee the inviolability of its borders. In the context of international politics, the question of possible compromises increasingly arises, as indicated by recent media reports. According to information, the administration of President Donald Trump is allegedly preparing a ‘peace proposal’ to resolve the conflict. Under this proposal, Washington reportedly would officially recognize Moscow’s control over Ukrainian Crimea and relax sanctions against Russia. This has sparked widespread discussion and raised many questions about the prospects of US policy in this complex situation. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, commenting on diplomatic negotiations, emphasized that Kyiv will remain steadfast in its refusal to recognize any temporary occupation of Ukrainian territory. He stated that Ukraine does not intend to make any concessions in this regard, and all risks related to recognizing Russian acts of aggression are considered red lines that must not be crossed. “It is important for us to continue defending the internationally recognized truth: Ukrainian borders are unchangeable and inviolable,” reassures the diplomat. This position of the Ukrainian government, supported by Lithuania and other European countries, undoubtedly strengthens global efforts to preserve Ukraine’s territorial integrity. The likelihood is growing that in the near future, the international community will be able to implement even more decisive and coordinated measures to counter Russian aggression and ensure peace and stability in the region. Amid these events, it is important to note that the issue of possible compromises and diplomatic solutions remains very complex and continues to provoke debate both within Ukraine and internationally. Every step that involves concessions to the aggressor risks undermining the values of Ukraine’s sovereignty and security in the long term. Therefore, active discussions are ongoing in international and national circles, and the outcomes of these discussions will influence not only Ukraine’s future but also the stability of the entire global security system.
