In the Carpathians, the height of spring suddenly brought winter weather once again, bringing snow and low temperatures

Despite the fact that it is already May on the calendar, the high-altitude areas of the Carpathians have been immersed in a winter snow cover, causing concern among tourists and local residents. According to the State Emergency Service, approximately two centimeters of snow fell in the mountains within a day, significantly changing the appearance of this seasonal period. It is also worth noting that there is a marked cooling in the high-altitude regions: on Pip Ivan Mountain, it is currently clear with fog, and visibility is severely limited. The air temperature there has dropped to at least -2°C, which is unexpected for April and May. Meteorologists emphasize that such unexpected weather fluctuations are not unusual for the Carpathians, especially in the highlands, where weather changes occur quickly and unpredictably. They warn tourists and everyone planning to visit these areas to refrain from active hikes and prolonged stays in the mountain ranges in the near future, as weather conditions are worsening and increasing the risk of injuries or getting into difficult situations. Rescue services recommend closely monitoring weather forecasts before going into the mountains and downloading the mobile app "Rescue in the Mountains" to your smartphone, which will help you receive real-time information and quickly call for help if necessary. Tourists should be especially cautious, consider the variable nature of the weather, and not underestimate the danger that can arise from unexpected snow and frosts—even during a period that is, according to the calendar, already spring.
