After a phone call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Donald Trump called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of swift and lasting peace

On his social media page on Truth Social, the former President of the United States expressed his views on the need to stop the ongoing hostilities, which have lasted over a year and cause daily human casualties and destruction. In his message, Trump stressed that the U.S. insists on implementing a 30-day unconditional ceasefire, which, in his opinion, must be respected by both sides. "We hope this ceasefire will be upheld, and we call on all responsible parties to honor the agreement. This is very important for saving the lives and health of the thousands of people who are dying every week in this conflict," he wrote. Should this demand be ignored, the U.S. and its allies promise to impose additional sanctions against Russia and its partners to increase pressure and encourage peace. Trump once again emphasized that thousands of young soldiers die every week and called on everyone to muster the political will to quickly end the bloodshed. He highlighted that despite personal ambitions, his values remain oriented toward seeking a peaceful solution and supporting the efforts of European countries in this direction. "We must do everything possible to end this conflict because it is not only a political issue but about human lives," he added. Furthermore, Trump firmly assured that the ultimate goal is to achieve a long-lasting and stable peace that will allow Ukrainians and Russians to rebuild their lives and economies. "This ceasefire should eventually lead to the signing of a peace agreement. All necessary arrangements can be made very quickly. I am open and ready to engage in the diplomatic process at any time to accelerate this path to peace," he stated. Earlier, on May 8, in a conversation with Zelenskyy, Trump congratulated the Ukrainian president on the Verkhovna Rada’s ratification of the agreement on economic partnership with the West, marking a significant step toward Ukraine’s integration into the European community. Zelenskyy, in turn, announced that Ukraine is ready to implement a 30-day ceasefire starting from today and called on the international community to support this step. These events once again confirm that the issue of peace and security in Ukraine remains at the center of international politics. Official Kyiv and Washington understand that a rapid and complete cessation of hostilities is necessary to prevent further human casualties and destruction, as well as to create conditions for subsequent political and economic reforms. As before, American leaders are calling for diplomacy, while also warning of sanctions in case of ignoring these calls, demonstrating their support for Ukraine and its pursuit of peace.
