On the morning of May 8, in the village of Sofiivska Borshchahivka near Kyiv, a shooting took place, resulting in the tragic death of a military serviceman and his mother, as well as a visit by special forces that ended with the detention of the suspect — a 63-year-old local resident. According to operational information from the National Police press service, the tense situation began about a month earlier when the man sold weapons to a service member residing in the same area. The deal was reportedly made for $1,000 USD. However, later on, a conflict arose between the parties over financial issues. The main act of violence occurred on May 8 at 15:22. The victims were the military serviceman, who had previously sold the weapons, and his mother-in-law, who lived nearby and was at home. Witnesses report that during a conflict between the seller and buyer, due to misunderstandings regarding the remaining debt, the perpetrator — whose decision had not been announced at that time — opened fire on both of them. As the shooting began, it was revealed during subsequent examinations that the firearm used had been purchased as part of the same deal a month earlier. The firearm attack ended tragically — the military man and his mother-in-law received severe gunshot wounds and died before emergency medical help arrived. The perpetrator, after committing the crime, entered his own home, barricaded himself inside and claimed he was blocked. However, the police quickly responded to the situation. Special units swiftly cordoned off the building and conducted thorough tactical and operational measures within an hour, resulting in the suspect’s detention. Preliminary reports indicate that the criminal is a resident of the same village, aged 63, with no prior criminal record. His identification and arrest were carried out as part of operational investigative activities conducted by law enforcement under the leadership of the Kyiv region police authorities. Currently, investigative and operational groups, forensic experts, criminologists, and medical personnel are working at the scene. They are documenting all circumstances of the tragedy, collecting necessary evidence, and determining the motives behind the crime. According to law enforcement reports, the investigation is ongoing, and the detained suspect is in custody in isolation.
