In the Kharkiv region, where intense fighting continues, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) identified a traitor among the personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who systematically provided valuable information to the enemy. The detention was carried out as part of a special operation supported by the armed forces' command, and has been officially confirmed by the agency’s press service. According to SBU representatives, the investigation established that the individual is a contract soldier from one of Ukraine’s combat brigades, who, under the guise of patriotism, carried out espionage activities in favor of the Russian military intelligence, known as the GRU. The traitor, based on obtained data, collected and transmitted detailed locations of military units, command posts, fortifications, and firing positions in the Kupiansk region. Information from the security agency indicates that the traitor was documented during communications with Russian agents through Telegram channels and voice messages, which he recorded in anonymous chats. Intelligence operatives noted that the coordinates of headquarters, backup command posts, and fortifications were of greatest interest to the enemy—these data were used to plan missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian targets. To avoid being targeted, the traitor, upon instructions from the Russians, exited the perimeter of firing positions several minutes before strikes were launched. A key feature of the operation was that Ukrainian special services were able to prevent tragedy by warning military personnel of potential enemy target locations in advance, thereby avoiding casualties and destruction. At the end of July, he was detained near Ukrainian military positions, located in close proximity to the front line. During searches of the detainee, two mobile phones used for communication with Russian intelligence were confiscated. Investigations revealed that the suspect was recruited by the occupiers back in January of this year and tasked with providing them with comprehensive information about Ukrainian troop movements and enemy fortifications. The commander of the Russian special services operating in this case is an officer of the RF military intelligence, who is currently on the front in the eastern sector. According to legal qualification, the detainee is charged with state treason committed during wartime. He is currently held in custody without bail, and investigations are ongoing to collect additional evidence and establish all circumstances of the case. Under Ukrainian criminal law, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property—a clear demonstration of the state's strict stance against traitors during the military conflict with Russia. This story once again demonstrates how dangerous and destructive treachery inside the country’s defensive lines can be, posing an even greater threat to the safety and lives of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians. Ukrainian security agencies continue their relentless work to identify and neutralize every traitor to ensure the resilience of Ukraine’s defense and the preservation of national interests.
