Russian occupiers once again attempted to launch a massive wave of drone attacks on Ukrainian territory

During the night from the evening of May 5th to the morning of May 6th, Ukrainian forces faced a large-scale attack — a total of 136 drones of various types were launched across the country, but most of them did not reach their targets. Overall, by the morning, 54 of them had been destroyed, another 70 lost control and were location-lost, and one drone remains in the air at present, with ongoing work to detect and neutralize enemy unmanned aerial vehicles. According to an official statement from the Ukrainian Air Force, as of 10:30 a.m. on May 6th, 54 Shahed attack drones and other drone-imitators used by the Russians to detect Ukrainian air defense systems had been shot down. The attack covered different regions of the country — the east, north, south, and central areas — and was carried out from the regions of Russian cities Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, as well as from Russian facilities in Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. Additionally, one drone was launched from the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia region, from the city of Primorsk. Ukraine actively countered this attack using various means of defense — aviation units, air defense systems, electronic warfare, and mobile fire groups of the armed forces. As a result of the enemy raid, the regions of Kharkiv, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk were affected, suffering from strikes and explosions of enemy equipment. Despite the efforts of Ukrainian defenders, most drones were shot down in the air, reducing the effectiveness of the Russian attack scenario, but the threat remains high — the enemy continues to attempt to destabilize the situation by employing drone attack tactics. Overall, these nighttime actions once again confirm the aggressive nature of Russian policies and the constant evolution of combat tactics on the front. Ukrainian military forces, despite the numerical superiority of the enemy in unmanned systems, demonstrate steady resistance and the ability to shoot down most targets. However, each launch serves as a challenge and a reminder of the danger hanging over the civilian population, requiring constant attention and heightened readiness for new trials on the front lines.
