On Ukrainian Infantry Day: Zelensky Honored Heroes and Emphasized the Importance of Defenders of the Country

On the occasion of Ukrainian Armed Forces Infantry Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky took part in solemn events dedicated to the soldiers defending Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity. Despite the challenging times we face today, the head of state met with servicemen, their families, and volunteers, and awarded high state honors, reaffirming unwavering support for Ukrainian defenders and their vital contribution to the fight for freedom. The award ceremony and the granting of ranks are among the most significant aspects of the event. In accordance with decrees signed by the Head of State, Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Solimchuk was awarded the rank of Brigadier General. Similarly, the following were promoted in rank: Commander of the 169th Training Center named after Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the Ground Forces, Oleksii Maistroenko, and Commander of the 19th Army Corps of the Southern Operational Command of the Ground Forces, Oleksandr Bakulin. This decision was not only a recognition of their professionalism and courage but also an example for other defenders. In his speech to those present, Zelensky emphasized the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainian infantry: “Today, Ukraine stands firm because of your efforts, heroic struggle, and continuous dedication. The military exemplary practices that define outstanding military conduct have already become a model for the international community. Your bravery and selflessness are the foundation of our future, the story that makes the entire Ukrainian nation proud.” The Head of State awarded high honors to the soldiers — the "Gold Star" of the Hero of Ukraine was bestowed upon Junior Lieutenant Vladyslav Datskyi and Junior Sergeant Mykola Molchanov. These awards recognize their incredible courage, heroism, and contribution to defending Ukraine under the most difficult conditions. Additionally, the President presented orders to the relatives of three heroes — Yaroslav Khybovskiy, Vasyl Yaremko, and Ivan Holubka — who heroically died defending their country. This is a symbolic gesture and a reminder to us all of the invaluable contributions of defenders who dedicated their lives entirely to serving Ukraine and its freedom. Zelensky, in his speech, once again underscored the importance of remembrance and honoring the fallen: “We will always respect their bravery and selflessness,” he emphasized. “And it is very important that not only today but always, we remember those who gave their lives for our freedom and do everything possible to maintain peace and security for our people.” These solemn events further demonstrated respect and support for Ukrainian soldiers, their resilience, and unwavering determination to win. In a context of ongoing battle and resistance against Russian aggression, the infantry and brave defenders play a key role in protecting Ukrainian land and independence. Their heroism in the fight for freedom remains an example for all citizens, while state support and awards symbolize gratitude and recognition. Ukraine thus shows the world that its heroes form the foundation of its future, and it is through their courage and strength that the country can endure difficult times. The memory of fallen heroes will live on in the hearts of Ukrainians and inspire new generations of fighters for freedom.
