The incident took place opposite one of the busiest districts of the capital, and its circumstances remain unknown to this day, heightening the tension and surprise among Kyiv residents who witnessed this tragic event. According to the State Emergency Service, reports of the incident arrived promptly: around 12:25 on Tuesday, a report was received about a person falling from the bridge into the water. Without delay, rescue divers quickly arrived at the scene and began search operations. For this purpose, a special diving boat, “Ruslan Koshovyi,” primarily used during search and rescue operations in Kyiv’s water bodies, was deployed. It allows for swift and efficient access to the relevant part of the river. Acting according to protocol, the rescuers dove approximately 900 meters downstream from the fall site and, about 50 meters from the shore, found the woman’s body, estimated to be around 40 years old, which presumably resulted from the fall from the bridge. The body was located in challenging conditions—under a strong current and beneath a dense layer of water, complicating the search process. The divers immediately used necessary rescue equipment and retrieved the woman from the water. After bringing her to the surface, the rescuers immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation, attempting to prevent a fatal outcome. However, unfortunately, it was not possible to save the woman’s life. Given the complexity of the situation, the specialists did everything possible, but medical teams confirmed her death at the scene. The body was transported to the shore for investigative procedures, and law enforcement agencies commenced an investigation to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy. At the same time, city officials and police are working to determine the causes and motives behind the fall. According to preliminary data, only that the incident occurred on one of Kyiv’s busiest and most congested bridges—the Pedestrian Bridge—is known at this time. This is not the first such case, and local residents have repeatedly raised concerns about the safety of this part of the bridge, which may indicate the urgent need for measures to improve safety in the pedestrian area. In conclusion, it should be noted that this tragedy once again underscores the importance of safety on bridges, especially during periods when the high number of people and various factors increase the risks to life. Authorities and responsible services are already working to prevent similar incidents in the future and to take measures to improve the safety of pedestrian crossings and bridges in Kyiv.
