President Zelenskyy with Trump in Vatican: the best and most effective conversation of all time

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his recent trip to the Vatican to attend the funeral ceremony for Pope Francis met with former U.S. President Donald Trump, which he characterized as the best conversation of all time prior to this event. This came as a surprise to many, considering the complexity of international relations and the diverse interests of both leaders. According to information obtained from sources provided to the Ukrainian news agency "Interfax-Ukraine," Zelenskyy made an official statement at a closed briefing for journalists. In particular, he noted that his dialogue with Trump was not only the most respectful but also the most constructive and effective of all contacts they had previously had. Highlighting the short amount of time spent on this meeting, he emphasized that the one-on-one format, in his words, proved its efficiency and contributed to creating a favorable atmosphere for discussions. "I can say with confidence that with President Trump we had perhaps the most productive conversation of all those we've had before. Although it was brief, I am convinced that the content and atmosphere of that meeting made it especially valuable. I believe that this format was ideal for our dialogue. The right atmosphere was created for open exchange of ideas, and I believe this meeting prompted Trump to see the situation a bit differently," Zelenskyy shared. The Ukrainian president stressed that despite the potential shifted worldview of Trump, he remained open to new ideas and opportunities for cooperation. At the same time, the head of state emphasized that it is important for each leader to make their own choices guided by their vision of the situation and the interests of their country. "We behaved constructively and decently. This is important in diplomacy, especially in such challenging times. We aimed for open dialogue and mutual understanding, and I am confident that such an attitude has its positive long-term consequences," Zelenskyy added. His words highlight the importance of supporting diplomatic channels to preserve and strengthen Ukraine’s position on the international stage. Thus, the meeting in the Vatican was not only a diplomatic moment but also a signal of both leaders’ desire for dialogue in the most important spheres. Zelenskyy hinted that the results of this conversation still need to be analyzed and that further steps from Trump should be observed in light of new circumstances. At the same time, the Ukrainian president’s statements emphasize his confidence in the correctness of his tactics and his readiness to continue on the path of constructive communication to achieve shared interests and stability in the region.
