On Sunday, May 4, the weather in Ukraine is expected to be unsettled, with temperatures reaching up to 28°C and possible thunderstorms, which could negatively impact the operations of various key sectors of the economy and infrastructure
Against the backdrop of increased humidity and lightning discharges accompanying rains and thunderstorm fronts, the likelihood of unforeseen difficulties in utilities, transportation, and energy systems rises. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre, the most challenging weather situation will occur in the western and northern regions of the country, particularly in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy areas. Short-term rain and thunderstorms are forecasted to begin already in the daytime. In these regions, there may be a significant increase in wind speed up to 15-20 m/s during thunderstorms, adding additional risks for outdoor work and creating hazards for residents. In other parts of Ukraine, precipitation is less likely. Overall, the weather conditions are expected to gradually intensify with south-western winds at speeds of 7-12 m/s, with gusts reaching 15-20 m/s during the day in many regions. The temperature will be fairly comfortable: at night, the air will warm up to 9-14°C, slightly cooler in the south-eastern regions at 4-9°C. During the day, temperatures will rise to 23-28°C, with the western parts being a bit cooler at 20-25°C. In the capital city, Kyiv, the situation is also quite variable: the night will be clear of precipitation, but brief showers and thunderstorms are possible during the day. Winds in Kyiv will be south-western at 7-12 m/s, with gusts up to 15-20 m/s during thunderstorms. The minimum temperature at night will be around 12-14°C, while daytime temperatures will range between 25-27°C. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre notes that weather conditions involving thunderstorms and strong winds pose serious threats to the stable operation of energy, construction, and utilities sectors. Power outages, disruptions in road traffic, and issues in housing and communal services may occur. Due to adverse weather conditions, specialists advise exercising particular caution and taking weather warnings into account when planning any outdoor or technical activities.
