On May 2, new acts of aggression took place in the Shostka district of Sumy region. According to the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, around 4:30 PM, Russian troops carried out a targeted airstrike, dropping two guided bombs. The attack was aimed at civilian infrastructure in the Seredino-Budsk community, one of the administrative units of the district that remains under the control of Ukrainian forces and civilians. According to official information, as a result of the strike, two civilian men aged 50 and 55 were injured. They sustained severe injuries and were urgently hospitalized in regional medical facilities. The circumstances of their injuries are being clarified by law enforcement authorities, but it is clear that the attack caused significant psychological and physical harm to the local population. The Sumy Prosecutor’s Office is conducting investigative actions in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies to document the consequences of this attack and determine the full extent of destructions and casualties. Nonetheless, current efforts are focused on providing first aid to the wounded and ensuring the safety of local residents. This is not the first case of Russian military aircraft attacking civilian targets in the region. Such actions not only cause numerous casualties and destructions but also increase tensions among the local population, which witnesses new crimes committed by the aggressor every day. Local authorities urge residents to exercise maximum caution and stay in safe locations until the situation stabilizes. Currently, law enforcement agencies continue documenting all the consequences of the shelling and collecting evidence to prepare appropriate legal proceedings against those responsible. Ukraine strongly calls on the international community to increase pressure on Russia to stop further acts of terror in Sumy region and other areas that have been affected by the war until now. This tragic event underscores once again that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine persists, leaving civilians defenseless against large-scale attacks. Local authorities and law enforcement are working to restore normal life in the affected areas as quickly as possible and to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
