On May 2, the region once again became a stark testament to the ongoing armed aggression that has lasted for over a year – several civilians were killed and wounded as a result of the attacks. According to Serhiy Lysak, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Russian occupiers used a combination of weapons in this area: artillery and kamikaze drones. This nighttime attack caused significant psychological and physical stress among local residents. "In the district centers of Nikopol, Marganets, and Chervonohryhorivska community, loud explosions were heard once again. The enemy used kamikaze drones and artillery this time, which resulted in civilian casualties. Four people were injured, including a young boy under three years old, along with his parents. Another victim is a 42-year-old woman who sustained shrapnel wounds and injuries from explosive fragments. All of them are currently receiving medical care and are undergoing rehabilitation at home, indicating the scale of destruction and harm caused," the official stated. As a result of artillery shelling, several fires broke out in the area – fires ignited in unused buildings as well as on private household plots. The fire spread to several structures, including a building that was standing unused, and also ignited dry grass in neighborhoods where private homes are located. These tragic events damaged several residential houses, an administrative building, critical infrastructure, and local power lines. Equally alarming were reports from Synelnykove district, where fire was directed at civilian objects through the use of combat cables and destruction systems. In Novopavlivka community, which is part of the district, militants also caused destruction – including damage to a school building that was no longer functioning at the time of the shelling. Overall, during these renewed attacks by Russian forces, the residents of Dnipropetrovsk region once again experienced the brutality and destructive power of war. Regional services are providing urgent assistance to those affected, while working to stabilize the situation and minimize further damage. In this context, it is important to note that the situation in eastern Ukraine remains tense, with shelling and sabotage actions against peaceful communities continuing to remind us of the high cost of peace and the necessity of consolidating efforts to end the aggression. Local authorities and rescue services are working around the clock to provide aid and protect the population, but each day brings new challenges and shocks.
