The day before, law enforcement officers detained the woman suspected of committing this crime, and during the court hearing, she made an unexpected statement that sparked considerable public reaction. The detainee turned out to be a woman who admitted that she fell in love with a person who, in messages sent via the Viber messenger, presented himself as an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and allegedly recruited her. According to official information, the decision regarding the preventive measure was made by the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv on Friday. The court authorized her detention until June 29, without the possibility of bail. The court also mandated that she be provided with medical assistance in the form of hemodialysis three times a week, as she is a first-degree disabled person. According to the prosecutor, the decision to keep her in custody without bail was justified by a threat to society due to the suspect’s character and the risk of her fleeing, while the defense side insisted on house arrest or another milder preventive measure. Before the session began, the detainee stated that she had no previous connection to Serhiy Sternenko and was not interested in his activities. It is worth noting that she has no criminal record. The suspect’s lawyer, Anatoliy Yurchenko, told the court that his client trusted a person who offered to "eliminate" the activist, motivating this by claiming that Serhiy was allegedly collaborating with the FSB and organizing shellings of Kyiv. According to the defender, the woman attended shooting courses and was preparing for a possible attack, although she was unaware of the number of shots fired. During the court hearing, the suspect explained that she communicated with the person who offered her these "services" via Viber, and that individual claimed to be an employee of the SBU. She said she fell in love with her interlocutor but had never seen him, didn’t know his name or face. "At first, I was scared, but then I fell in love with this person, although I didn’t see his photo. We communicated via Viber, and his words made a strong impression on me," she admitted. Furthermore, the woman denied any mental health issues and claimed to have kidney problems. She stated that she was allegedly promised a kidney transplant if she completed a "task," which she described as frightening. Examining the documents in the case, it is known that Serhiy Sternenko was penetratively shot in the thigh, which indirectly confirms the seriousness of this attack. It was also revealed that his fiancée had previously seen the suspect several times, which could indicate her prior awareness of the situation. Overall, the atmosphere surrounding this criminal incident remains tense. Law enforcement continues to search for other possible accomplices and is uncovering all the circumstances of the case. The public actively discusses the shocking confessions of the suspect and her persistent attempts to explain her actions. The case is currently under review by the court, and it promises to surprise many again, as the entire situation raises numerous questions and discussions regarding the motives and circumstances that led to this incredible and tragic incident.
