In April 2025, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine took an important step in modernizing the Ukrainian army by approving over 120 new types of weapons and military equipment for operational use
These advancements are aimed at providing Ukrainian defenders with greater efficiency and mobility in contemporary military conditions. This decision resulted from the systematic efforts of the defense department to enhance the country's defense capabilities amid complex geopolitical realities. According to Deputy Minister of Defense Valery Churkina, more than 85% of the new military developments are produced by Ukrainian enterprises, which indicates the growth of the national defense industry and its ability to create high-tech products specifically for the needs of the army. As part of the large-scale modernization, since the beginning of 2025, over 400 new Ukrainian weapons and military equipment samples have been codified, intended to improve the combat readiness and technological level of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Among the innovations are modern unmanned aerial complexes, which have already begun to be actively used on the battlefield. They are complemented by new types of ammunition, electronic warfare systems, modern communication and control systems, as well as robotic platforms and specialized mobile vehicles. The most impressive update is the introduction of over 40 new drones capable of being controlled via fiber optic communication. This allows Ukrainian troops to receive real-time data and coordinate actions without the risk of interception or interference from the enemy. According to Valery Churkina, these new systems are critically important for modern warfare, as "generally, what we currently have in our arsenal is not enough. To respond to the challenges of Russian aggression, we must react faster, complicate the enemy's operations, and invest significant resources in the development of technological weapons. First and foremost, we need to strengthen unmanned systems — UGVs." The background for this large-scale regrouping dates back to information that emerged on May 1. It was then announced that Ukrainian military units would receive new combat boats created by Aquaspirit. These are promising vessels equipped with modern technology capable of enhancing the country's maritime defense component. Currently, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces actively utilize developments from this company — their combat boats demonstrate the ability to respond quickly in coastal areas and strengthen maritime defense, which is a crucial element of the overall strategy to deter Russian aggression. Thus, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense proves that the country is moving along the path of technological independence, updating, modernizing, and strengthening its Armed Forces with modern, high-tech means. This can potentially become a guarantee of greater security for national interests and the consolidation of Ukraine's defense capability during turbulent times.
