Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky officially reported on the latest measures in the field of international and domestic sanctions, which were introduced on May 1st

Chas Pravdy - 01 May 2025 17:18

In his address, he подробно рассказал о целях и обоснованиях этих мер, а также назвал имена лиц и компаний, к которым применены ограничительные меры, в том числе тех, что имеют украинское гражданство. At the same time, the head of state emphasized that the main goal of the sanctions policy is to increase pressure on Russia, which is conducting an aggressive war against Ukraine, and to prevent the financing and supply of resources that support the occupation regime. Zelensky underscored that the first package of sanctions, ratified on May 1st, includes 36 companies and five individuals working in various countries around the world, with close ties to the Russian military complex. According to him, these enterprises are engaged in the supply of metals, including titanium, and operate in the fields of metallurgy, energy, and machinery manufacturing. It is important to note that some of them are already under sanctions by other countries, which indicates the synchronization of international sanctions pressure. "We are making every effort to complicate the operations of the Russian military complex as much as possible and to reduce Russia's capabilities to meet its military needs through international pressure," Zelensky stated. The second package of sanctions involves restrictions on 106 legal and physical persons actively facilitating the presence of occupiers in Crimea, in the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, and providing supplies to Russian military formations. According to the President, these measures aim not only to complicate the activities of individual persons and companies but also to strengthen the overall sanctions coalition against Russia in the context of the ongoing war. Zelensky also announced a third package of sanctions, which covers nine individuals, of whom seven hold Ukrainian citizenship voluntarily. Among them are representatives of propaganda who actively work in the interests of the Russian aggressor. According to him, they are engaged in spreading propaganda materials, justifying the war, and conducting active information operations aimed at destabilizing Ukraine’s internal spiritual and informational space. In Zelensky’s view, this is one of the significant reasons for applying restrictions. It is important to note that some Ukrainians subject to sanctions are not random individuals but players connected with propaganda and information warfare in the interests of Russia. The President emphasized that his administration actively monitors this process and prepares new sanctions steps, since maintaining the country’s security and independence remains one of the main priorities of state policy. The precondition for these measures was the initiative of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, adopted on May 1st, which provides for the introduction of personal sanctions against several public figures, including former Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office Oleksiy Arestovych, political scientist Kostiantyn Bondarenko, and blogger Myroslav Oleshko. These decisions are symbolically and practically significant, as they call for accountability for those propagating anti-Ukrainian narratives and contributing to the spread of disinformation. Overall, the sanctions implemented demonstrate the active and systematic work of the Ukrainian authorities to block any resources that could aid Russia in the war. This is one of the aspects of the state policy aimed at isolating the enemy and strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, as each such decision contributes to the protection of the country’s national security and sovereignty.
