S. President Donald Trump has, for the first time during his second term in office, authorized the sale of military assistance to Ukraine exceeding 50 million dollars. This came as a surprise to many analysts and observers, as the Washington authorities had previously kept this information secret, only confirming cautious signals of support for Kyiv in its confrontation with Russia. Details of this news were published on the presidential portal Kyiv Post, citing sources within U.S. and European diplomatic circles, as well as in particular, the "European Truth." According to the publication, on April 30, the Trump administration officially informed Congress of its intention to approve the export of military goods to Ukraine via the mechanism of Direct Commercial Sales (DCS). This means that the United States intends to sell weapon systems, technical data, and some related services aimed at supporting Kyiv’s defense capabilities. Submitting such a notification is mandatory under U.S. export control laws for arms. Although such an agreement does not typically involve broad public announcement, it indicates an ongoing improvement in U.S.-Ukraine military cooperation amid Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression. Sources note that this initiative is the first such step during the current president’s second term. Considering the history from 2015 to 2023, the U.S. has already approved the export of Ukrainian weapons and military services totaling over $1.6 billion without large official declarations. This demonstrates continuous support and active U.S. involvement in military aid aimed at deterring Russian aggression and securing Ukrainian territories. Commenting on the situation, analysts emphasize that these "quiet" decisions reflect a systemic change in U.S. government approaches to supporting Ukraine. Colby Badvor, an expert from the Tochnyi research group in Washington, stated: “All these Direct Commercial Sales mechanisms are ‘quiet’ — they are not announced publicly. But the important news is that the supply of weapons to Ukraine continues, even when it seemed that the Trump administration would completely distance itself from this support.” This signals that, despite political fluctuations, the U.S. maintains its strategic support for Ukraine in its confrontation with Russia. Therefore, the new data indicate that the Trump administration has taken a step toward intensifying military assistance to Kyiv, balancing domestic politics and international strategy. This could have serious implications for the further development of the situation around Ukraine and its defense capabilities during this challenging period of wartime.
