According to official information from Ukrainian defense forces, starting from the evening of April 30, Moscow conducted a missile attack and a large-scale digital campaign using drones targeting Ukrainian territories. In total, five Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 170 attack drones of various types were launched across the country, of which Ukrainian defenders managed to destroy nearly half – 74 drones. According to the Air Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as of 8:30 a.m. on May 1, Ukrainian correctional systems shot down 74 Shahed-type drones and other reconnaissance UAVs. The impressive figures show that 68 of the various types of decoys were destroyed on site by Russian forces, which did not cause additional negative consequences for Ukrainian civilians. On the contrary, it is important to note that Ukrainian security and defense forces were prepared to repel this attack, using all available means: aviation, anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic warfare tools, and mobile fire groups. During the attack, losses were recorded in several regions of Ukraine. The south, north, east, and center of the country were especially affected, including Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, and Kyiv regions. The attacks from the Russian side were carried out from the occupied Crimean Peninsula, as well as from Russian cities such as Kursk, Millerovo, Orel, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. Additionally, it is known that drones were also launched from Cape Chavda in Crimea – a strategic point that remains one of the main directions for enemy attacks. The process of repelling the aggression was accompanied by large-scale aviation activity and efforts by air defense systems. Aviation, anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic warfare systems, and mobile fire groups of Ukrainian defenders worked in coordination to reduce the effectiveness of the attacks and protect the population and infrastructure from destruction. The high tension and continuous preparedness of Ukrainian defense forces in the face of new attacks confirm that the enemy continues to seek the latest ways to cause harm, but our defenders remain vigilant, capable of countering threats and defending the country. Such large-scale missile and drone attacks are a testament to Russia’s intent to escalate pressure on Ukraine through new wartime tactics, combining traditional missile weapons with modern kamikaze drones. At the same time, the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defenses and the fighting spirit of Ukrainians allow for mitigating the consequences of these prolonged and widespread attacks, confirming that the country remains resilient and capable of resistance under the most difficult conditions of war.
